I've been really blocked up with this corn thing. Like when you eat too much corn and your butt whole is full of corn, that's how my head feels. I want to outline the scope of the Maize Maze project but this could be challenging as it is essentially infinite.

On a meta level I’d like it to demonstrate how easy it is to use a given subject as a lens to bend and focus all of reality through. It’s sort of an exploration of conspiracy theory in general, how a few given signs and keywords can be extrapolated out and everything put into the context of one particular interconnected system of knowledge, one worldview. Perhaps this piece could serve as a template for deconstructing other crackpot narratives. In this case we begin with an unseemly kernel which symbolically contains everything from international corporate espionage to ritual sacrifice to transhumanist gene editing. I think it’s a good neutral subject to explore the mode of parapolitical thought and research with. What’s the end result of conspiratorial thinking? Generally it seems to be an end unto itself, the conspiracy theory constituting a self sustaining ideology that can endlessly adapt to integrate new facts. So what’s the end result of the corn maze? Where’s the exit? I think that question might be the wrong one though. Maybe instead I should be wondering about what I can learn with my friends while I’m wandering in the corn maze.

On a surface level I want this project to cover exactly how entrenched corn is in our society, how it got there, and why. Did we cultivate corn, or did it cultivate us? I want to give you the the tools, the shinigami eyes or witcher vision/what have you to see through the corn matrix, all the ones and zeroes, cobs and kernels laid bare. I'll begin with a daunting list of crypto-corn products you would never suspect, then we'll move into the history of the development of corn, then finally the science and economics that make it so useful and widespread.

when the homegated corn syrup is re-constituted into the form of a corn shape it actually becomes hyperreal;; an infinity harnessed within each kernel . this is y it is the key—no. the gateway between worlds

  • Citric acid is made by feeding sugars, often derived from corn, to Aspergillus mold.
  • Even if you buy raw honey that isn’t cut with corn syrup, the bees that make it might still be cornfed: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/high-fructose-corn-syrup-may-be-partly-responsible-for-bees-collapsing-colonies-46859095/
  • Cows fed on corn make milk which is then fortified with vitamin D dissolved in a vegetable oil solution. Can you guess what vegetable? (Needs source)
  • Animals fed on corn go to meat cutting plants where lactic acid is often sprayed to keep down the spread of bacteria. The lactic acid is made by fermenting glucose, often corn derived.
  • Frozen fish are often glazed in a mixture of corn starch/corn syrup to prevent dehydration and oxidation, which polyunsaturated fats in fish are vulnerable to.
  • Most consumer vitamins and pills use active ingredients, stabilizers, or production stearates sourced from corn.
  • The surfactants in shampoo and dish detergents are often processed with corn glucose. Many cosmetics use corn (‘zea mays’). After you eat corn you use corn to wash corn off your dish and corn to clean the corn off your face.
